The myth of the "TROMBONAVE"

A proper translation of "Trombonave" in English would be "Love Boat" whereas when you read love you should understand SEX. As a matter of fact the "trombonave" is a real ship, the cinderella, cruising from Helsinki to Stockholm and it is operated by Viking Lines. The Viking lines also operate these ships:

  • Isabella
  • Mariella
  • Gabriella(the newest)
  • Amorella
  • Rosella (the oldest)

All the ships cruise nightime between Finland and other destinations in the baltic area. Click Here for some photogalleries.

The "Cinderella" offers low cost transfers to all of the Finnish students and to tourists travelling with inter-rail tickets. The convenience of this ship is even boostered by the fact that it offers a duty free shop that opens as soon as the ship leaves national borders. To many Italians and mostly Europeans a onborad shop means absolutely nothing. To Finns and Swedish it is a exceptional bargain! With alcohol taxes ranging from 25% to 40% being on the ship makes drinking very cheap compared to homeland.

Adding to this it is a custom of Finns to pass the Weekend cruising on these ships to get cheap alcohol and enjoyment. That usually means to GET DRUNK and find somebody to pass the night. This usually resolves in a more than usual number of One-Night stands and/or a higher than average number of fights and broken bones. (we utterly prefer the first stance)
